Biography:
The roots of Jamaican cultural music..."Katt I" emerges. The powerful,
charismatic, and smooth voice of “Katt I” is definitely one of a kind and
unique in and of itself. With his roots from Kingston, Jamaica, Katt I
(formerly known as Katt/Delroy Katt) began singing at a young age.
Eventually he started entering competitions and singing on large sound
systems in Jamaican dancehalls. In the past, he has worked with several
producers such as Philip "Fattis" Burrell (Xterminator Label), Style Scott
(Roots Radix Band), Danny Brownie (Main Street Label) just to name a few.
Katt I’s crooning skills have led him to perform at various places in
Jamaica. In the 1990’s, he would sing 5 to 6 nights a week in several of
Jamaica’s most popular 5-star hotels/resorts. This exposure allowed him to
flatter crowds, both locally and globally. Some visitors/tourist would
return to Jamaica for the sole purpose of seeing Katt I. He has performed
at the Bob Marley Birthday Bash (Trenchtown, Jamaica), and the Rebel
Salute (Mandeville, Jamaica). Both are annual events that feature many of
the top reggae artists in Jamaica. Katt I has also performed at the
prestigious Jamaica Federation of Musicians Honor Awards in 2001 (Ocho
Rios, Jamaica).
Katt I has performed several gigs on cruise liners, as well as Reggae on
the River, the Sierra Nevada World Music Fest, the Mount Shasta World
Music Fest, the International Caribbean Fest (Detroit, Michigan), and the
Northwest World Reggae Fest (Woodburn, Oregon). The list goes on…
